The Drinking & Writing Brewery

Through our radio program (that's us, Sean and Steve, in the studio acting like we are on the air), The Drinking & Writing Brewery Radio Show, and productions on stage and in bars, our website, and on the page, The Drinking & Writing Brewery exists to preserve the spirit and devotion of the hard drinking writer and to uphold the rituals of creativity through their passion for the written word. We strive to attract others who share these principles.

Steve Mosqueda
Steve was born and raised in Los Angeles and has lived in Chicago since 1990. He performed a lot of improv before becoming an ensemble member of The Neo-Futurists. Besides writing and performing in Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind for more than 10 years hes also co-written several prime time shows including Torque, SEX!, and Drinking & Writing Volume I, D&W Volume II: The Noble Experiment and D&W Volume III: To Cure A Hangover. The success of these shows formed the beginnings of what is now known as "The Drinking & Writing Brewery", an ever expanding company whose
creative tentacles include the website, the radio show on WLUW, the stage shows, delicious home-brewed beer and the D&W Festival in June. Steves love for beer goes back to his days in college at Seattle University. Even as a poor college student he knew he enjoyed drinking Ballard Bitter more than Rainier but he couldnt quite put his finger on why. So he continued to drink Rainier and Heidelberg, Mickeys Big Mouths and Schmidts, the cheap fair of the day, but constantly craved something better. He was a slow learner and when he could finally afford it, began to drink good beer. But it wasnt until he did some research about beer that things finally came together. One day after introducing himself to Pete Crowley, Rock Bottom brewmaster, and picking his brain about beer he found himself in the basement of the brewery with Pete. Pete was filtering an IPA and handed Steve a sample. It was the best beer he had ever tasted and he realized his life would change forever. A whole new world opened for him and now he is in a constant search to sample the best beers the world has to offer. These days you can find him most often inside Chicagos own Beer-muda Triangle (Rock Bottom, Goose Island Beer Company, and Piece), Hopleaf Bar, The Edgewater Lounge, the Map Room or just about any other beer bar in the city, doing interviews, organizing events and sampling the great beers of Chicago. Salud!
Sean Benjamin
Sean is fairly new to good beer. He spent many, many years drinking beers like Miller Lite and Budweiser. While he can still drink those beers, he has slowly developed a taste for the finer things in life. And living in Chicago offers him the chance to drink at some of the best beer bars around. He does also write. Sean joined The Neo-Futurist Theater Company in 1996. He has been performing in the long-running show Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind since then and has written over 300 two minute plays for the show. His full length work produced by The Neo-Futurists includes: Devolution (2000), Missing Parts (2001), 43 Plays for 43 Presidents (2002, written in collaboration with Neo-Futurists Andy Bayiates, Genevra Gallo, Chloe Johnston, and Karen Weinberg of SecondCitys Gayco. (2005, conceived by Sean Benjamin and written with Jay Torrence, Steve Mosqueda, Noelle Krimm, and Chloe Johnston), The Santa Abductions (2005, directed by Sean Daniels), Drinking & Writing Volume III (2006, written with Steve Mosqueda), Poker Night at the White House (2007, directed by Sean Daniels. Also produced by Dad's Garage), and Drinking & Writing Volume IV: The 12 Steps of Christmas (2007, with Steve Mosqueda). He has also performed in The Neo-Futurists production of City Girl! (the musical) (2002), and in Summer Shorts: David Mamets Sermon (1996). He trained in improvisation at The Second City Training Center with Martin DeMaat and Michael Gellman and at ImproOlympic with Charna Halpern and improv guru Del Close. He performed at ImprovOlympic with the house team Georgia Pacific, the longest existing team in I.O. History (so he's been told). He is co-creator (with Steve Mosqueda) of Drinking & Writing Brewery and The Drinking & Writing Brewery Radio Show on WLUW 88.7 FM Independent Radio, a monthly radio show focusing on the connection between creativity and alcohol featuring original work by Chicago writers. Sean and Steve also created , now in its 4th year, and . Steve and Sean performed their newest volume of D&W, Drinking & Writing Volume IV: The 12 Steps of Christmas, at Victory Gardens Biograph Theater. 43 Plays for 43 Presidents will be produced by Actor's Theate of Louisville this fall right before the big election. Sean Daniels will once again direct it. Steve and Sean have an upcoming show in January 2009 at The Neo-Futurist Theater called...BEER!
