Beer + Food + Art = Pairing
The Drinking & Writing Brewery Presents The 4th Annual Beerfly Alleyfight
To celebrate the 1st Annual Chicago Craft Beer Week and American Craft Beer Week, The Drinking & Writing Brewery will hold its Fourth Annual Beerfly Alleyfight Saturday, May 22 from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Rock Bottom Brewery in Chicago. The Beerfly Alleyfight is a “pairing” of homebrewed beer, home-cooked food, and homegrown art. The Beerfly Alleyfight competition goes one step further than other pairings by adding an artist to the mix. Tickets to the Beerfly Alleyfight are $30.00 online or $35.00 at the door if available.
Each beer and food pair will be matched with a Chicago artist who will interpret the pair as they see fit…an interpretive jazz dance to go with a wheat beer and peanut butter and jelly sandwich…just for example, of course.
Throughout the day, the artists will present their pieces in the Beerfly Alleyfight boxing ring. Some of the artists included this year are last year’s Best in Show winner Neo-Futurist Eliza Burmester and fellow company member Phil Ridarelli; BoyGirlBoyGirl ensemble member David Kodeski; musician John Szymanski; Laura Grey and Laura McKenzie from Laura on Laura; and puppeteers Dan Kerr-Hobert and Bernie McGovern. Prizes are awarded for best beer, best food, best artistic interpretation, and best overall pairing.

The radio show airs the first Sunday of every month at 6PM or you can listen right here. The show is one hour long and each show explores the connection between creativity under the influence and includes interviews and reports on a featured writer, a featured bar/brewery, music, and original writing by artists from Chicago and everywhere else.

The Drinking & Writing Experience: Belief & Technique
Why do you drink? Why do you write? Have you ever asked yourselves these questions? They are the basis for the Drinking & Writing shows. Now is your chance to explore the connection between creativity and alcohol. Beginning Wednesdays from April 14 to May 12, The Drinking & Writing Brewery will offer it’s first ever workshop on the subject of Drinking & Writing hosted by Neo-Futurists Sean Benjamin and Steve Mosqueda. We can’t teachyou how to write and we can’t teach you how to drink, but we will make you write and drink. The 5 week workshop includes discussions of famous drinking writers, special guest speakers, and, of course, drinking & writing. Course culminates with short Drinking & Writing performances written and performed by you. WARNING: You must be 21. We strongly encourage drinking in class...which will be in a bar.
